The journey from home to assisted living is not always easy...

We are here to help.

Next Steps – The Basics

Once you or loved one has decided that an assisted living residence is a good next step, there are a few things that you can do to make the move easier. If you don’t have a will, or Miller’s Trust (estate trust) in place, you may want to talk to an Attorney to create one for you. Also, if you would like to have a voice in how your healthcare and last wishes are handled, you may want to prepare an advance directive. Check out a document called Five Wishes at www.fivewishes.org.

Finances – What are “Waivers?”

Waiver programs offer people who meet an institutional level of care the ability to receive care in a community or assisted living residence rather than a nursing care facility. There are income limits and eligibility requirements. These waivers are called 1) Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) waiver, and 2) Alaskans Living Independently (ALI) waiver. Both are accepted at Arctic Rose Assisted Living.

Choosing Services – Finding a Care Coordinator

A Care Coordinator is a professional who can help navigate the waiver process. This person can assist you or your loved one in assessing your level of care and determining your individual needs. A good place to start is Care Coordination Resource of Alaska at www.ccralaska.org.

Here For You Always

My mother had to be placed in an assisted living facility, which was a very difficult decision for us to make. Although it was never intended to happen, it was required by events. My mother and our family were treated with a lot of love by the employees. We were quite strict with her care and spent 12 to 24 hours per day in her room for many times. Although some of the caregivers had more training than others, they were all really compassionate. The nurses were wonderful and respectful of my parents' religious views. The employees shed tears with us when my mom passed away. We are all incredibly appreciative of the love and care they gave.

I am very happy with the care my mother Arcticrosalf takes. It is clean and the staff is professional, yet very loving towards her. They treat him with respect and dignity; Even when his dementia makes it difficult for him to communicate with them. They take extra care to make him feel needed and useful by including him in work during the day and let him feel that he is still contributing to life. Elisa Winchester, LPN, Admin treats residents like family, we have had the pleasure of working with the rest of the staff.

When my mother first required additional care, I was unsure of what to do. The Arctic Rosealf House was mentioned to me while I was in Washington. After I contacted, my mother was immediately admitted. I was incredibly appreciative of it, but I had no idea how appreciative I would be over the following two years! They gave my mother excellent care. Every requirement she had was met, the meal was delicious, and they immediately informed me if I needed to take care of anything on my own. If I continued, this would become a dissertation. It suffices to mention that I urge everybody who will or needs to listen to Arctic Rosealf!
